Vice President’s Final Report

Executive Vice President: My two-year term as your Vice President representing carriers in the State of Florida has been extremely busy and rewarding. My duties have been varied, from revamping the web page to lobbying for legislation that helps support letter carrier issues. During these past two years I have had the privilege to travel throughout the state and have been honored to meet the outstanding leaders and dedicated members of this great state. Without hesitation I can say that I feel honored beyond words that you have allowed me to serve the union in this capacity.

This year’s election of union friendly candidates was not as successful as planned. This should serve as a revelation for all of us as to how quickly our rights can be severed by a stroke of a pen. On our trips to Washington to speak with the twenty-five Florida Congressional Representatives, we stressed to them the importance of preserving six-day delivery and how necessary it is to the American public. We also impressed upon them the other ways to save the USPS without sacrificing a day of delivery.

We, the NALC, are one of the last big unions in the country. We will be continually challenged from all directions. The words “Made in America” is becoming more difficult to find. We as NALC members and leaders must support all union workers.

Last year the FSALC made available union made and union printed tee shirts as a show of solidarity. That trend continues this year with not only tee shirts but mugs also. Buy union, buy American made products, should be words we live by.

This year’s State Convention must continue to set the tone for an agenda that keeps our Union strong. COLCPE must mean more that just giving money. It is our way of surviving in this very expensive political climate. We need UNION friendly candidates. We must become geared up for the Presidential election of 2012. As a union, we must find a way to improve on the dismal numbers of Democrats that came out to vote. Look for updated information on fsalc.com in the upcoming months on how to help our cause. We are the middle class; do not let them destroy it.

Fraternally,

Al Friedman
